I cannot believe all of the love I received yesterday, from some expected and unexpected places and gosh you guys :) Makes a gal feel kinda special in all the ways.....I had a lovely day and am looking forward to my birthday party coming up! I guess we are celebrating this whole month;-) But I had a powerful reminder of something huge the night before my birthday and I wanted to share.......I had mentioned that I was on the block to be moved from 4th to 5th due to certification challenges that exist......and I did not want to be the one to be moved......I love my team and have loved 4th grade since I student taught all of those years ago.....it is magic......and I said my peace to my administrator last week, and he listened and heard me for sure......I shared it all, not thinking I could change the outcome but just for my own process.....and I did so in a professional manner, with the understanding that it was beyond his control.....just letting my perspective breathe some and I appreciated his holding space for that....and then there were moments Monday, where it might have been another teacher and not me.....and then the divine dance brought it back to my door step....and I was told Tuesday at the end of the day that I was moving to 5th....and my principal felt terrible about having to move me.....giving me first refusal to come back to 4th any time......if a spot opens......and he told me what a strong teacher I am and that he could put me anywhere, and he knows I will do a great job, except we joked about kindergarten being the exception lol:) And he admired the way I handled it all.....and well acceptance came to find me......we often say no or resist things we know nothing about.....and I try not to do that.....you never know what might be great for you.......and then in the aftermath of the move actually happening, and my current team absorbing the news, and my new team embracing me, I got to be affirmed on the high road and its benefits. One of my team members reaching out to a new one and saying you have no idea how lucky you are to have her.....the sweetest thing to say, and I love this woman so in all the ways, and will miss her fiercely in my day to day, even though I am right down the hall.....and my new team member hugging me, and saying how proud she is to have me on her team because of how much grace and professionalism I showed in being moved, and she is so excited to work with me........and well for me.....that is everything.....and I speak often that it doesn't matter what people think of you, and that is mostly true except as it pertains to how you conduct yourself......in a situation like this......I would never have thrown a fit.....or any of it.....I knew to some degree it was beyond my control, and once that became clear, I chose to default to acceptance.....and hold my head up, and accept the new challenge.......my principal also said that my being moved had nothing to do with anything except logistics but that teaching 5th requires intelligence so it wouldn't be a grade to move a person for any other reason but it being necessary lol:) So here I am....50 years old, moving to 5th.....in my 5 era lol:) And as so much else has shifted perhaps a shift in my professional life is in order! And personally I feel so grateful for the growth I have experienced in terms of change......in my old life this would have rattled my cage harder, and today that isn't true:)........As I have said, what is FOR me, will NEVER miss......and what isn't for me will never find me.......so.........I am moving grade levels with the respect of my boss, and my colleagues....and knowing I will be missed in one place, and welcome in another....what more could I ask for really, right??? SO here we go......new adventures await:)
